Candice and the Stand
Candice stood her ground as shots went by her into the dirt. She shot back at them. She had switched to the lever-action Henry. The guys shooting back had six guns and with the distance couldn’t hit her. She took aim and hit one of them in the neck. The 45-70 round nearly knocked his head clean off. One down three to go. A round took a bad bounce and struck her in the hip. She remained standing even with the wound. She remembered from the books how the Kid would say you need to stand people like that down.

Four Days ago,
The day after my brother showed up Candice was planning a trip with some of the children from the school and their teacher. They would go out into the wilds and study nature outside of town. I don’t see why they can’t just do that here but I also think she would be better off away from my ass of a brother. After talking to the Chief, he suggested they go to a part of the desert that has flowers that bloom only once a year. The trip was a long one and they would have to plan for bad weather. The rain was coming and their chance to see this was slipping away. The Chief said he would send a couple of his people with them as guides but really as guards. Outside of The People all the ones going were either women or children. One of men going was the Chief’s son Fallon.
Fallon and Susan the school teacher had a quiet relationship going on. She was in her fifties and he was twenty-two. He was supposed to marry a woman who could produce an heir. He was not just the oldest but the only male heir. Susan had been married and had two grown children. They kept things quiet, so everyone knew. They were taking ten children with them. two boys and eight girls. Most of the boys in school were not allowed to leave their chores that long.
They made their way into the wilds. After about a day they setup camp. Around a fire Fallon and a young man named Hercules told stories from their nations. Some of them ghost stories others where creation stories. Hercules father named him for the Greek myth after reading about him. He thought using such a name would make in strong. It was said among The Hopi that he could lift a horse. The oldest of the students the fifteen-year-old Sandy just couldn’t keep her eyes off Hercules.
As they spoke a voice came out of the dark, “well what do we have here.” Then another voice from the other side of the camp, “looks like we have us some Indians with some pretty little white girls Jerry.” Two men walking into the light of the fire. Candice recognized one of them from an artist sketch. He was Jerry Grand also known as Jerry Bone for the knife he carries and how the handle supposedly was made from the bone of a Chief. He was wanted for armed robbery and murder. Wanted dead. Shoot on site. Candice was no fool. She brought her pearl handled Colt Army single action, two other handguns and three new Henry 45-70 lever-action rifles. But this wasn’t the time to use them.
Fallon asked, “what do you want here?” the other yet to be named man said, “shut the fuck up red skin. You don’t talk to a white man unless he lets you.” Jerry said to the rest of us, “excuse my friend Jim’s language he hasn’t been around ladies for a while.” Little nine-year-old David said, “the triple J gang.” This was almost like a slap to the face to the one named Jim. He grabbed David and nearly tossed him in the fire. Candice Drew her revolver. The steel gleamed in the fire. Jerry started to say, “now that is a man’s gun little.” She interrupted him by chocking it. Both put their hands up in a mocking fashion. Jerry said, “we didn’t mean nothing about nothing but if we aren’t wanted then we will find a place that wants us.” The disappeared into the night. Candice knew this wasn’t over. That night they took shifts looking out for the men.
In the morning, they packed up and were off. By the end of the day it was time to stop and make camp. They were near a ridge so they sent two of the children to it to watch for anyone. By nightfall there was no one. There were no stories that night. Just a long cold sleepless night of worry. In the morning Candice went to the fire. It was out. Lying on the ground was Fallon and Hercules. Fallon was alive with a gunshot to his upper shoulder and both legs. Hercules was shot in the head. They very carefully carried him to the wagon. Susan had worked as a nurse during the war and was able to dress the wounds. All three were through and through but they were still very nasty.
There was a scuffle just outside or the wagon. Jerry had ahold of Sandy and was forcing a kiss on her. In the process, he had ripped her dress open and revealed most of her young naked body. David jumped and ran at him. Jerry dropped the weeping Sandy and shot David squarely in the head. The other children started to scream and cry. Jerry then licked Sandy in the head. He turned to the others and said, “wait your turn.” From behind the wagon Jim said, “not a problem Jerry.” Jim had two other men with him one in an old gray uniform the other dressed like any cow hand they had ever seen. All of them had revolvers.
Jerry went to the ground nearly on top of Sandy. He ripped her dress a little more in preparation of raping her. The other men stopped watching the rest and started to watch Jerry. Candice took their distraction to pull her gun out of the hidden holster in her dress and fired. She hit Jerry in the upper back and head. He crumpled over then down. The other men went into different directions away from the camp. Susan went to Sandy. She was in bad shape Jerry may have cracked her skull. It was hard to tell. She was slow in responding and sowed signs of head trauma. She then started to convulse. As soon as her convulsing stopped she stopped breathing. She died right here in the dirt. The last victim of Jerry Bone. Candice looked over and saw Jerry was somehow still alive. Susan got up. She pushed him over and using a knee on his chest she pushed down until she heard a pop. His wounds made it easy for her to finish him off.
These stories will be based in the old west and an attempt at a modern western (later on).
