In their efforts to take control of the earth the rabbits developed technology such as compressed air guns with rounds that are the size of a grain of sand but expand in the body to a thousand times their side when a liquid was introduced. A human wouldn’t feel the shot but it would feel the round expand. Micro nuclear bombs were built. The size of an almond with the explosive force of three bricks of C4. When clustered together they make a force that can bring the human world down. When in the new armor a rabbit is protected from all but the 50-caliber round. Pair that with a century of training until the training became instinct, the rabbit is now the world’s greatest fighting force.
The rabbits wanted to take the entire world all at once but smarter rabbits crunched the numbers and realized if the take key countries they could build their forces while conquering the rest. China would be the hardest country to take with such a large population. The rabbits would take the countries of China, America and this strange one called Europe. They would find out later it was many smaller countries. In the country called America they would swarm key cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. They would also strike at the heartland where the humans grow their food. The rabbit nation dreams of feasting on human produce and spilling human blood.
The night before the big attack the head rabbits gathered to celebrate what they were about to do. The queen said to the crowd, “tomorrow after centuries of planning we the rabbit kingdom will emerge from our holes and stomp the human down. For years to come tomorrow will be the most important holiday for rabbit kind everywhere. Tomorrow we dine in the human halls of power over the blood of the human leadership.” The rabbits in the crowd started to chant, “long live the rabbit kingdom, long live the queen and long live the heard.” The queen hated the heard chant. The head was a populist movement pushing for rabbit equality over monarchy. Democracy is a human trait not a rabbit one. The queen saw the General in the audience. He was a straight and upright rabbit. Handsome with features many felt would make for good offspring.
The general earned his name in smaller battles against the dog menace. Battling dogs and dog kind to protect the native rabbits, he led rabbits into battle directing the conflict like a human general. He also was part of the testing of the new weapons. He will personally killed the first humans in the war against mankind. The queen wanted to share a nest with this rabbit and maybe bare his offspring as the new leaders of the kingdom. More than that she wanted him. His perfectly formed tail put a shiver in her ears and a quake in her loins. He got her foot thumping.
That morning the queen woke up to find he was gone. It was not proper to leave the queen without permission, but she understood that he was needed in the war. The war would start today. On her monitors in her personal hutch she watched the rabbits gear up and take positions. On another monitor was watched the footage from last night. She recorded ever encounter with every rabbit just in case one of them became father to the new queen. It was always queen. No male could rule the kingdom. Her great, great, great grandmother once tried to have it renamed the Queendom but it just didn’t stick.
About twenty percent of the rabbit army were fitted with the new translation box. It converts the rabbit language into the many human languages. This was no easy task. Rabbits speak with their voices, lips, eyes and most of all their ears. Humans talk with their voices and hands. So primitive. The rabbits that master the box were special and earned their names. They were distributed throughout the earth. The queen wanted the humans to hear the voice of the kingdom. This box is where the cult and eventual movement came about. They became known as the Heard. A take on a rabbit herd as well as the ability to speak the human tongue. The Heard became a battle cry. One the humans could hear. The queen also feared the Heard and its social implications. A populist movement within her kingdom could unravel it all.
To add to the frustrations the queen has not picked her successor. Unlike human kingdoms, the rabbit queen chooses her successor rather than just going with the oldest in line. In some cases, a rabbit queen will choose from outside of her own line. This happened about a thousand years ago. Most queens choose a successor from their own line. They take the time to choose a rabbit that will uphold the kingdom. One that is strong and fair. In her time, she has had seven possible successors. She knows that she must pick soon or face the end of the kingdom. Rabbit lure speaks of a time without a queen. It also says that if a successor isn’t chosen then the kingdom will fall. She does not want to lose the kingdom at just the moment when it conquers the earth. She thinks that her possible offspring with the General could create a grand queen.
The queen turned on the monitor for just outside of the royal hutch. The General was addressing the rabbit army, “today we take what is ours.” The rabbits thump their feet all at once. The general went on, “today we take our rightful place on top of the animal kingdom as we make our queen the queen of the world.” The rabbit all thump their feet in celebration. The queen could see every one of her one-hundred-thousand armies all thump in unison. Each army was made up of one-hundred-thousand rabbits. Her ten billion rabbit army that will sweep the land of the scourge of man. Every man, woman, and child in their target cities will die today. Also, every dog and cat will feel the icy death of the rabbit kingdom.
